Joseph Wolverton & Doc Severinsen
Wherever Joseph Wolverton performs, he garners acclaim from both critics and audiences alike, emerging as one of America's most gifted tenors. Praised for his technique, fluid line and expression, performance reviews have described his voice as "shiny, limpid", "with a lucid, plangent timbre," and "notable for lyricism and refinement." Equally at home on the operatic stage as in the concert hall, Joseph Wolverton's artistry traverses a broad spectrum of musical styles - from bel canto to modern - and he appears with leading orchestras and opera companies worldwide.
In the 2006-2007 season, Joseph Wolverton will be returning to Houston for pops concerts with their renowned Symphony. He will also be heard in concert with frequent collaborator Doc Severinsen in a series of Pops concerts with both the Minnesota and Milwaukee Symphonies. The spring finds Mr. Wolverton in Belgrade, Serbia for a series of master classes and recital, as well as a performance of Berlioz’s Requiem with the National Symphony.
Next season engagements include a return to Mälmö, Sweden for numerous performances of his celebrated portrayal of Gounod’s Faust, as well as his London debut as Cavaradossi in Tosca at Royal Albert’s Hall.
Recent seasons included performances of the title role of Gounod’s Faust with Utah Opera, Rodolfo in La Bohème with Arizona Opera, and also performances of Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor with Opera Carolina. In Mälmo, Sweden he was heard in Rossini’s Stabat Mater as well as performing opposite one of the legendary Carmens, Agnes Baltsa in highlights of that opera. Additionally, he sang a series of highly successful performances of Cavaradossi in Tosca and his first Romèo et Juliette in Umeå, Sweden.
Although his diverse repertoire encompasses French Romanticism, Mozart, Operetta, and other genres, Joseph Wolverton is particularly distinguished in interpreting the lyric heroes of the Italian school, including those of Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini, and Mascagni. The critically acclaimed recording of the latter composer's Silvano captures Wolverton's outstanding performance in the title role (Elysium Records). A Mascagni specialist, Mr. Wolverton's research in this area prompted the discovery and compilation of rare art songs by the composer.
Highlights of Mr. Wolverton's United States performances during past seasons included Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly (New York City Opera, New Orleans Opera, and Baltimore Opera), as Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore (L’Opéra de Montréal), as Cavaradossi in Tosca (Dallas Opera), the role of Paul in the U.S. premiere of Krasa's Verlobung im Traum (Washington Opera), Turiddu in Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana (Florentine Opera), Des Grieux in Manon (Portland Opera), Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi and The Duke in Rigoletto (Seattle and Tulsa Opera), Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera (Knoxville Opera), Hoffmann in Les Contes d'Hoffmann and the title role of Faust (Utah Opera, Michigan Opera and Opera Pacific), Pollione in Bellini's Norma (Toledo Opera and Ft.
